Karen Marsh
President
Karen grew up in the Valley and after living away for a number of years, returned to the area in 2019. She enjoys developing her property with trees, shrubs and flowers, fruit trees, and veggies. Her favorite however is peonies! Karen joined the VGC in 2023 and enjoys learning from the other members and speakers. Always wanting to learn more, Karen is currently enrolled in the Atlantic Master Gardener program.
Pat Mora
Past President
Pat's gardening journey began in 2007, when her family established a large, front-yard flower garden. Once the garden began to fill in, she became curious about growing food, and so started a backyard vegetable garden. Pat is passionate about food, and loves trying out new vegetables and varieties. Pat joined the Valley Gardeners Club a few years ago, and has enjoyed learning from the diverse interests and experiences of our members and speakers.
Janet Holden
Treasurer
Janet comes from Ontario and has lived in Nova Scotia for 5 years. She was raised in a family of avid gardeners, of both flowers and vegetables.
As an adult, Janet carried on her interest in gardening and has had perennial flower beds and vegetable gardens at most of her homes over the years.
She loves flowers but in particular enjoys vegetable gardening and cooking/freezing the bounty of her garden every year.
Tomatoes are a favorite, but in particular, Janet says she has never met a potato she didn't like!
As a longstanding business owner, Janet brings common sense and continuity to her role as treasurer.
Lesley Winter
Programming Chair
Lesley spent her adult life helping family tend their gardens and then helped create edible spaces in an urban community in Montreal. Lesley now lives on a beautiful property with lovely gardens, and loves to learn and experiment. Longtime members Barry and Elizabeth Yoell encouraged her to join the Valley Gardeners Club, and shortly thereafter Lesley became the Programming Chair. It has been a great way of getting to know the community and all the wisdom that surrounds us.
Allan Ferguson
Secretary
Allan’s love of gardening began in childhood, when his grandfather introduced him to growing flowers and vegetables. He has been a member of the Valley Gardeners Club for the past three years and especially enjoys learning from the knowledge and experience of seasoned gardeners. Allan is particularly drawn to the preparation side of gardening — building structures, digging new ground, and improving soil to create the foundation for thriving gardens. He enjoys finding creative, practical solutions to garden challenges and making use of materials already on hand to bring new garden spaces to life.
Wendy Collins
Communications Chair
Wendy finds pure joy in being outside with plants, getting her hands dirty, and losing track of time in the garden. She tends a backyard space filled with veggies, fruit, herbs, flowers, and native plants — it always begins the season with structure and intention, and happily evolves into a bit of a wild jungle by mid-summer. Wendy couldn’t possibly choose a favourite thing to grow and enjoys experimenting with whatever the season brings. As Communications Chair, she brings her background in digital marketing to help grow the club and connect more people with the gardening community she loves.
